The annual Hualien County Indigenous Joint Harvest Festival was held with great enthusiasm from July 21 to 23, 2017, at the Hualien County Meilun Athletics Stadium.

Situated east of the Central Mountain Range, Hualien boasts world-class natural landscapes and internationally renowned Taiwanese indigenous culture. Hualien County is home to six major indigenous groups: the Amis, Truku, Bunun, Kavalan, Sakizaya, and Seediq. This rich and diverse indigenous culture is Hualien's most precious cultural asset and its finest resource for tourism development.
As Hualien's most important annual summer extravaganza, the Joint Harvest Festival has been celebrated for many years, drawing massive crowds of tourists from far and wide.
The "Thousand-People Dance"
The "Malalikid" (joint dance) is the absolute highlight of the festival, where tourists are invited to join hands with locals to form a breathtaking and spectacular "thousand-people dance." This year's theme, "Palafang" in the Amis language, translates to "come and be our guest." "Palafang" signifies warmly welcoming visitors and serving them the most bountiful feast. It represents an open invitation to people from Taiwan and across the globe to visit Hualien, especially during the Joint Harvest Festival from July 21 to 23, to experience the unique indigenous music and dance culture firsthand.
